NasonCare provides COVID testing for patients three years of age and over. Keep in mind that all minors receiving a COVID test must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
What Type of Covid-19 Tests are Offered at Nasoncare?
To best serve our Charleston area patients, NasonCare offers both PCR testing and rapid testing. Your health is our top priority, and our medical staff is working hard to keep your family safe.
Rapid Test
Results (Wait Time): 15 minutes
Rapid tests, also known as antigen tests, are best used in detecting the COVID virus in those currently experiencing symptoms. The short wait time for results makes rapid testing an effective method of decreasing the spread of COVID through contact tracing.
PCR Test
Results (Wait Time): 1-3 days Depending On Lab Processing Time
PCR tests, the simplified name for polymerase chain reaction tests, detect the COVID virus’s genetic material in the body. While these tests are widely considered the most accurate, their results take longer to obtain. PCR testing is especially effective for patients without symptoms.
What to Expect During a Visit for Covid-19 Testing?
Here is what you can expect during your COVID test:
-
A swab will be inserted into your nose to extract the sample.
-
This process is mildly uncomfortable – but don’t worry, it takes only a few seconds!
-
PCR tests will be packaged according to CDC guidelines and sent to a lab.
-
Rapid tests will provide results quickly, and you will get them before you leave.
What Do I Need to Bring to Covid Center for a Test?
When visiting our North Charleston COVID Testing Center, please bring your driver’s license and insurance card, if you have one. If another medical professional has referred you to NasonCare, please bring that documentation if possible.
How to Read COVID-19 Test Results?
Our healthcare team understands that receiving your COVID test results may be stressful – but we are here to help! If you have questions about your results, please do not hesitate to ask.
Here is What You Need to Know:
- A negative test means the COVID-19 virus WAS NOT found in your system.
- A positive test means the COVID-19 virus WAS found in your system.
If you have received a positive result, do the following to prevent spreading COVID:
- Stay home for at least 7 days.
- Remain as isolated as possible from other family members.
- Rest and closely monitor your condition.
- Call 911 if you experience trouble breathing or have persistent chest pain.
*Note: No COVID test is 100% accurate. False positives and false negatives are possible.
